The Marco Island Historical Society puts the Fun in a Fund Raising event and the Public is Invited:
To introduce the new museum to SW Florida residents and raise some needed funds to complete the complex, the event is open to the public,
From 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. you can visit the Appraisal Faire, 2010 at the new historical museum on Marco Island.
You may discover that the dusty old vase you've been using to store chopsticks is worth a small fortune--or perhaps the chopsticks are ivory ones from the Ming dynasty. .
The rules are simple: you must be able to carry the item or items into the museum unassisted, and the charge is $15.00 for each item (you may bring three). Members of the Marco Island Historical Society will pay only $10, as the Society is sponsoring this wonderful event. If you decide to join MIHS that day, you will pay only member charges for appraisals. Cash, checks and credit cards are acceptable.
You will get a verbal appraisal from our guests experts, three of whom are stars on a well know PBS show: Wes Cowan, Nan Chisolm, and Ken Farmer. Two local appraisers are Bill Meeks of the art gallery in Naples, and Denise Kowal gemologist of Sarasota.
There will be entertainment also: Frankie Ray and Mary Ellen will be on hand, as well as Carol and Bernie Bierman on keyboard and violin, and Bob and Norma Daniels, a musical group from Illinois on Keyboard and Saxophone
Light refreshments available for purchase.
What does the new Marco Island Historical Museum look like?
The Marco Island Historical Museum, newest Collier County Museum, is designed to look like a Calusa Indian Village on a shell mound. Two buildings of the complex, the Museum and the Administration Building, have been completed and will house the event. The third building still under construction, the Living History Hall, is still under construction. It sits on a simulated shell mound and has a water feature that was a Calusa trademark.
The Appraisal Faire, 2010, is to show off the buildings and help raise funds for its completion.
Since the Museum building has no exhibits, it makes a wonderful venue to hold this event.
